Case Studies - Holloway Road
Holloway Road
Project Overview
The Holloway Road Improvement Project formed part of the STIC (Surface Treatment and Infrastructure Contract) framework, commissioned by Transport for London (TfL) and delivered by Eurovia. The project involved critical highways and streetscape upgrades along one of North London’s busiest corridors. Specialist subcontractor Zack Contractors played a key role in delivering all groundworks, surfacing, drainage, and comprehensive traffic infrastructure works to support this high-profile urban scheme.

Our Approach
01
Comprehensive Traffic Management
Zack Contractors implemented detailed traffic management plans in line with TfL’s safety requirements to safely manage road users and pedestrians during all phases of construction, minimising congestion and risk.
02
Highway Groundworks & Drainage Installation
Groundworks included excavation sub-base preparation, and installation of adoptable drainage systems designed to meet TfL and STIC standards, ensuring effective surface water management and long-term highway durability.
03
Asphalt Surfacing
Using high-quality materials compliant with TfL specifications, Zack Contractors completed asphalt resurfacing and patch repairs, providing a smooth, durable carriageway surface capable of withstanding high traffic volumes.
04
Granite Kerb & Concrete Paving Installation
Granite kerbs were installed to provide durable edge restraints with a high-quality finish suitable for the urban environment. ASP Concrete paving was laid in pedestrian and service areas, enhancing safety and accessibility while complementing the surrounding streetscape.
05
Traffic Infrastructure Works
A key element of the project was the installation of traffic infrastructure to TfL standards, including:
-
NAL Sockets: Installed to securely house traffic signal poles and lighting columns, providing reliable, maintenance-friendly connections.
-
Inspection Chambers: Strategically placed inspection chambers were constructed for ongoing access to ducting systems, allowing efficient maintenance and reducing disruption.
-
Ducting Systems: High-quality ducting networks were laid to facilitate future electrical and communication cabling, ensuring ease of access and protection of utilities under roadways and footpaths.
All components were installed following TfL’s stringent specifications for materials, installation practices, and durability, ensuring long-term reliability and safety of the traffic infrastructure.
06
Traffic Signage and Road Marking
New road signage and thermoplastic line markings were installed in compliance with TfL guidelines to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
07
Coordination & Compliance
Working closely with Eurovia and TfL project managers, all works were monitored to ensure compliance with strict quality, environmental, and safety standards.
